Taunton Town Centre Pedestrian Improvement Proposals

One of the points that came up at our group discussion about transport earlier this year was a desire to see the town centre pedestrianised. Well here’s our chance to get our voices heard: visit here to fill out a short survey about your views,  or go here for more information. Alternatively you can email the transport policy team : transportpolicy@somerset.gov.uk

“One proposal is that North Street, St James’ Street and Hammet Street could be pedestrianised when the Taunton Third Way opens in winter 2010.  The public will be able to say whether they think this area of the town should be wholly or partly pedestrianised, if at all, as well as put forward their own ideas to improve road safety and make Taunton a more attractive place to shop.”

  1. I can only agree. although a long time ago now, Exeter high street was transformed when the high street was pedestrianised. The larger the area one can allocate to such a scheme the more valuable a town centre becomes.

Although never likely to happen, keeping buses out of the area would also be a big advantage or only let buses running on electric into the zone.
