Transition Together – Transport

DID YOU KNOW?

Cars can get us from A to B in comfort and at our convenience – and boy, are they convenient! They work hard for us, probably harder that you realise.

Did you know:

  • A tank full of petrol provides us with the same energy as one person, working for 8 hours a day, 365 days a year, for almost three years
  • If you were to pay for that energy equivalent at the current minimum wage, a tank of petrol should cost you £48,268!
  • Alternatively, if you were to value your own human energy in the same way you currently value petrol energy, you would be paid just less than 1p per hour!

Cheap oil has led us to grossly undervalue what something as simple as petrol and diesel has done for us. Yet with Peak Oil a reality, our petrol prices and other fossil fuelled transport costs are set to rise – and rise and rise.
