MEET THE GROWERS AT FLAXDRAYTON FARM, SOUTH PETHERTON

THURSDAY 30th SEPTEMBER 2010

2.30pm and 5pm

PLEASE BOOK BY 27th SEPTEMBER

An exciting opportunity for all food buyers, catering managers, school caterers and village shop managers to meet some of Somerset’s best organic vegetable growers and find out more about Somerset Organic Link.

Somerset Organic Link (SOL) is managed by Peter Foster and Christina Ballinger. The company was formed in 2001 and is registered with the Soil Association. Specialising in the freshest, best quality, organic produce, SOL grows vegetables on 25 acres of land at Flaxdrayton Farm, near South Petherton. Last year Flaxdrayton yielded more than 14 tonnes of carrots, 10 tonnes of leeks, 4 tonnes of parsnips and 8 tonnes of onions along with a wide range of other vegetables. This year SOL is set to grow similar volumes at Flaxdrayton and Peter and Christina are keen to develop new markets for their produce. Fruit and vegetables not grown at Flaxdrayton are sourced by SOL from organic farms in Somerset and neighbouring counties.

SOL would like to show you the range of produce growing at Flaxdrayton. This will give you a chance to meet Christina and Peter, ask questions and discuss with them if you would like SOL to supply your catering service, shop or restaurant.

To accommodate busy schedules, there are two sessions on Thursday 30th September, the first at 2.30pm and the second at 5pm. These will be held at Flaxdrayton Farm near South Petherton.

The visit will start with a brief word about SOL and its products followed by a tour of the land and a taste of fresh, organic, locally grown vegetables. You’ll need to wear suitable clothing and footwear as we’ll be outside on farmland for some of the visit.

If your organisation would like to serve up tasty fresh vegetables, is committed to sustainability and would like to support the local economy by buying from a local producer then please come along to find out more. They will even provide you with a free box of samples to take away with you!

If you would like to join us on 30th September, please register by emailing Somerset Organic Link mail@somersetorganiclink.co.uk with your name, contact details and a note of whether you’d like to come at 2.30pm or 5pm. Or, if it’s easier to register by phone, call Alison Belshaw on 07851 468984.

Christina and Peter look forward to welcoming you to SOL.

(One that just missed our newsletter.  This is a great opportunity to visit a working farm and try their wide range of organic vegetables.  )
