Zero-mile Diet

Taunton-based local food enthusiasts have started a new blog:

“While the concept of only eating locally grown food is not new and we have become familiar with farmer’s markets and farm shops as a source of fresh seasonal produce, this blog is aiming to encourage us all to enjoy local food at its best, whether it’s straight from your own garden, from local shops and markets or foraged from hedgerows. The ‘Zero-mile’ diet refers to feeding yourself from your own garden. However, for many people this is not possible, so as well as inviting people to submit their  favourite ‘zero-mile’ recipes, we’re encouraging you  to seek out local producers and tell us how you use  their products to add variety, flavour and freshness into your diet throughout the year. We’re looking for recipes using seasonal produce, ideas on how to deal with gluts and how to preserve foods to keep you eating ’ local’ over the winter months.  If you’ve a favourite spot to forage for wild food then we’d love to hear from you.

This idea  has come from a recent meeting held by Taunton Transition group we’re  here to inspire you to choose local food, reduce your food miles and carbon footprint.”
