Thermal movies!

What happens when you give a thermal imaging camera to a couple of film makers and a bunch of Transiiton minded people?  No its not a riddle, it’s Taunton Transition Town’s latest, greatest project, supported by our LEAF grant and with immense thanks to Tom Stubbs and Stephen Clarke of biggerhouse (www.biggerhouse.co.uk).

It all began one Saturday in March in a Church Hall, where eight of us turned up to meet the film makers and explore just what the creative potential of using thermal images to tell a story might be – and it was fantastic. Who had realised the sheer beauty of pouring hot water into a metal dish?  Or the wonder of a thermal body print on a cold floor.  Or how even our breath has its own thermal image.  After our playday, five people went on to make individual 60 second Thermalogues with the help of Tom and Stephen, who also made some of their own too.  They are all completely different, some “on message”, some beautifully off the wall, but all part of a wild experiment that we think has huge potential for helping people “see” their relationsihp to energy differently.  Huge thanks again to Tom and Stephen, you are total stars. And to the film makers themselves, Fran Hicks, Judy Crosher, Gabriella Falk, Claire Dungate and Victoria Carpenter.  Click the link below, look for the title “Thermalogues” and – enjoy!
