Seed Saving Course – 28th Feb

SEED SAVING COURSE

Saturday 28th February, 9.30 – 5pm

At Brook End LAND Centre Compton Dundon (near Street/Glastonbury)

The course will cover:
• Why save seed?
• How pollination works
• Basic seed biology and botany
• Methods of annual and perennial seed saving
• Practical harvesting of seeds
• How to store seeds
• Corporate control of seeds and seed sovereignty

The course will involve practical, participatory sessions. The course includes a home-grown, home-made lunch and salad, as well as refreshments.

Cost: The cost of the course is banded on the basis of income:

Up to 14K p/year Free
14K-20K p/year £25
20K upwards £45

About the Tutor: Carol Stone has many years experience as
a food grower and seed saver. Carol set  up West Somerset Seed Saver’s in 2009 to 
promote use of locally grown seed and food security. She has written a seed saving handbook packed A with practical tips and know-how about selecting, saving
and storing annual, biennial and perennial vegetables. She 
has delivered seed saving workshops to Transition Groups  and community garden projects. Carol has a Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Horticulture and is passionate about involving more people in food production, community food growing and cooking, and building more sustainable and resilient food systems.
