For all you guerrilla gardeners out there the next months outing will be to the Old Aviary in Vivary Park, Taunton. This is a bed planted with culinary and medicinal herbs with some unusual perennial plants thrown in that you can actually eat; anyone for some hosta shoots? The inspiration comes from Martin Crawford’s excellent book ‘How to grow perennial vegetables’ which has its basis in forest gardening.
Venue: The Old Aviary, Vivary Park, Taunton
Directions: Go through the main gates of Vivary Park. Take the path that bears right. Take the first path right towards the trees and picnic tables. In the glade is a raised bed that used to be the aviary.
Date : Saturday 2nd May
Time: 10.00 am to 12.00 am
Bring a trowel, gardening gloves, secateurs and any plants or seeds if you have them.
Remember we are looking for perennial plants that are edible in some shape or form, and herbs. We are also looking for bee loving plants. The plot is rather shady with some areas of deep shade.
