Attend the launch of a new report “The Power to Transform the South West – How to meet the region’s energy needs through renewable energy generation.”
This event provides a fantastic opportunity to hear more about how Somerset is leading in this area showing that it can provide 152% of it’s energy needs through renewables.

The evening is on Friday 10th July at the Glastonbury Town Hall from 5.30pm. Refreshments will be provided and there will be stalls representing some of the renewable support groups in the area. The panel will be from 6.00 – 8.00pm.
Members of the panel – Molly Scott Cato, Green MEP for SW England; Andrew Clarke, Resilience Centre; Sonya Bedford, Head of Renewable Energy; Stephens Scown Solicitors and Tom Hathway, South West Young Greens, University of Plymouth. The team will be chaired by Jon Cousins, Deputy Mayor, Glastonbury Town Council.

The Panel:
Molly Scott Cato – Green MEP for SW England
Molly is an economist and writer who has campaigned for green politics all her adult life. She studied politics, philosophy and economics at Oxford University and later gained a doctorate in economics from Aberystwyth.
Aside from her work as an economist Molly’s areas of special interest include land ownership and food production; renewable energy, especially when it is owned by local communities; co-operatives and self-managed firms; and issues concerned with peace and opposing nuclear weapons and nuclear power.
Andrew Clarke – The Resilience Centre
The Resilience Centre (a social purpose business who assist Landowners, Communities, Businesses, and others by delivering practical, economic, sustainable solutions to increase Resilience to the effects of climate change and resource depletion.) MSc Environmental Engineering BSc (Hons) Environmental Science and Geology. Andrew is a technical environmental, business and land management consultant combining knowledge of environmental systems science with commercial expertise; He has broad ranging experience, and practical knowledge of climate change adaptation and sustainable resource management including renewable energy, agroforestry and eco building. Andrew brings technical and commercial excellence to The Resilience Centre and leads on realising practical sustainable solutions.
Sonya Bedford – Head of Renewable Energy, Stephens Scown Solicitors
Sonya’s strengths lie in dealing with wind farms, wind turbine acquisition, solar pv (domestic and commercial) Anaerobic Digestion, Biomass and Hydro. Sonya is also experienced in dealing with Grid Connection agreements and issues, funding of renewable energy projects and dealing with the EPCs and O&M Agreements for these sites.
Tom Hathway – South West Young Greens, University of Plymouth
Tom is one of the region’s Co-Conveners, coordinating local groups. He was part of the founding group that organised South West Young Greens. He is currently in his fourth and final year at the University of Plymouth, where he studies Biological Sciences and sits on the Union Executive Committee of the students union with Environment & Sustainability as his remit.
