South Somerset Community Energy have just raised a stonking £284k. South Somerset Community Energy (SSCES) is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, whose aims are to reduce carbon emissions and fuel bills, especially for those in fuel poverty, throughout South Somerset. South Somerset Community Energy (SSCES) has reached its £275,000 target, raising £284,000 and exceeding its target by almost £10,000. The share offer has now been closed. The Society will proceed to install solar panels onto Westfield Academy and the Abbey Community Association’s hall, providing reduced cost electricity and helping to combat climate change.
Avalon Community Energy’s share issue is still open until the end of the month and they are looking for another £100k still. Avalon Community Energy Co-op covers the large area of Somerset around and including Wells, Glastonbury, Street and Shepton Mallet. We are working with the local population to find and establish suitable sites for community-owned solar generation plants, especially those that are based on otherwise redundant industrial and community rooftops.
