Climate Support Group

Taunton-Green-ParentsThe seriousness of the global climate and ecological threat has been hitting us with increasing urgency. This has challenged many of us – both with questions about how we can respond constructively and the task of keeping ourselves on an even keel in the face of the disturbing information coming our way.
These two “layers”: of inner and outer response are connected. If we are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or disorientated, this obviously affects our ability to decide on practical action, also our sense of well-being. Whilst action is obviously vital and empowering, a sound response starts with coming to terms with how the subject is affecting us.

Taunton Green Parents has therefore decided to launch a support group to enable those of us who feel we could do with such help to meet and share our concerns and struggles. In this way we can help each other to articulate the ways in which the subject affects us and benefit from the support of sharing the task with others who are facing the
same challenge.
We have available to us the services of two experienced psychotherapists: Gisela Lockie and Adrian Tait. They have agreed to co-facilitate a group of up to twelve members. In addition to their professional trainings, they are both members of the Climate Psychology Alliance (CPA).
The plan is to hold an introductory meeting on Thursday 7th March, at 19:30 (venue TBC). This will give those who are interested an opportunity to get a sense of (and help to shape) what theprocess will be, before committing to 6 initial meetings on a weekly/fortnightly basis. Gisela and Adrian are seeking no reimbursement for their services, but a voluntary contribution (guide £5 per person per session) will be appreciated, to cover the cost of the room hire and to make a donation to the work of CPA.
If you are interested in attending, please be sure to let me know via email
(gemma.lucy.hodges@googlemail.com), as the maximum number will apply. Places will be on a first come first served basis. If necessary, it might be possible to arrange a second group.
