“If we continue on our current path, we will face the collapse of everything that gives us our security: Food production, access to fresh water, habitable ambient temperature and ocean food chains,”
Sir David Attenborough
Sir David Attenborough’s speech to the UN Security Council today (Tuesday 23rd February) warns of the threats of global heating. But is this all just too little, too late?
Boris Johnson, the chair of the Security Council, stated that “Whether you like it or not it is a matter of when, not if, your country and your people will have to deal with the security impact of climate change” after a colourful stereotyping of the environmentalists (“tree-huggers and tofu-munchers” – interesting how he failed to mention scientists and activists who have been discussing this for decades). The Prime Minister Boris Johnson was keen to highlight measures the UK was taking to reduce emissions and stressed the importance of helping vulnerable countries to “adapt and build resilience”. That is wry when the Green Homes Grants are in disarray, the UK is opening a new coal mine in Cumbria , and roads are being built with no real economic to cost benefit.
Let us hope there can be some difference made from this call to arms…. governments are talking about the real risk of climate heating , billionaires are proposing technology fixes, renewable energy production is increasing and there are some in roads to cutting CO2 production.

“Please make no mistake, climate change is the biggest threat to security that modern humans have ever faced.”
Sir David Attenborough
