J25 Upgrade: Lost Opportunity

It has come to our attention that there was missed opportunity to improve access for coaches at J25.

Roger House has provided the following info, ‘ He asked SCC if coaches could use the bus lanes of park and ride. No- they are designated for local bus services only.

Coaches turning off the new roundabout by Nexus 25 would have to continue to Henlade to turn round

The removal of parking means there is nowhere for touring coaches to meet up and exchange passengers.

The Falcon bus services stop just a strip of pavement, no shelter or helpful signage (link with Exeter and Bristol plus airport).

Park and ride buses whizz by and don’t stop with SCC saying they are going to paint a yellow box for the bus stop on the road.

At junction 24 the new services area was planned with coach spaces, at junction 26 the House of Somerset with coach spaces, at Tiverton junction 27 a massive new leisure development to attract coaches by the Cornwall Eden project people (website reveals best facilities for coaches and drivers).

With the total loss of the town bus station soon, we need to adapt the entrance to the park and ride now under construction to provide a safe sheltered bus and coach interchange; linked by regular park and ride buses to the town centre and station.

All the embodied energy of the current hard infrastructure will need to be dug up again for this obvious modification.’

There just appears to be a lack of joined up thinking. People who regularly use coaches and bus users are just considered as a second thought.
