Tidy Up Taunton CIC in collaboration with Show Me Your Rubbish want to invite you to our big summer event, following on from the success of The Big Taunton Spring Clean.

On Saturday 14th August we want to fill the streets of Taunton with groups of litter pickers, all tidying up Taunton en-route to their nearest park to join in with a big community picnic at 1pm! The aim is to have each park across Taunton, from Victoria to French Weir, Hamilton to Taunton Green, filled with families and friends having fun, celebrating the summer in the sunshine (hopefully), and enjoying a picnic and taking pride in the many wonderful public spaces we have in Taunton. We really are so lucky to have the number of parks we do, and it is on all of us to make sure they are taken care of.

The picnic is the big reward at the end of a litter pick. It’s up to you what you’d like to do, whether you go out as a family, as friends, as a community group or a street, get chatting to your neighbours and plan a route! Maybe start at your house and see how much you can pick up on your way to the park, or maybe you live close to a notoriously bad litter spot like the train station and you want to start there before heading to the park. Whatever you choose and however long you decide to litter pick for, we’d love to hear your plans in the event discussion.

At this stage we are looking for a volunteer for each of the parks to help us keep each picnic on track, act as a go-to with any queries, and to keep an eye on the event page if any questions crop up. If you’d like to help us out with this please message Tim @Tidy Up Taunton CIC on Facebook.

Sadly we can’t provide a picnic for everyone, but if you need to borrow a litter grabber please do get in touch. They are in short supply at the moment so it will be on a first-come basis. We can also provide you with the bin bags, and closer to the big day we’ll be putting out safety advice and information about what to do with all the litter we’re going to find.
