Inside LEAF 5

You have no idea how much fun a thermal imaging camera is!  I thought it was just good for taking images of the outside of a house, but no!  Take it around the inside if your house and you can spot the draughts, heat leaks and hotspots down to the tiniest detail.  A front door we thought was pretty robust turns out to need a thorough re-insulation around the edges.  A catflap we thought was a bit leaky is actually a real nightmare (anyone ever come across double-glazed cat flaps?).

Then we got a bit off piste and have got some amazing pics of my son eating stew with REALLY hot roast potatoes (they come out like the black lumps of coal)……

…some lurvely flowers in front of a radiator (the rad is the dark bit)

…..and a rather alarming pic of the rear view of the cat.  Hmmmm.  I think I will leave that one out……..

We have now handed the camera over to Stephen and Tom who will be running a workshop this weekend 3 March to make short films using thermal imaging, open to all, no experience necessary, c/o The Brewhouse (01823 283244 to book).  Anyway this is  now a permanent resource in our patch, we now want to see how to make it available to householders across the town.  Let us know if you would like to get your hands on it and we will see what we can arrange.

You should now also see Groundswell open space event publicity around and about – posters on the turrety things in town by Costa and Lloyds and leaflets all over the place.  If you can help put more out in the town, please let us know.  We are also chatting to the Gazette about having what they call a Platform at the end of March – a whole page of editorial and ads, totally devoted to matters green.  We will be buying ad space ourselves to invite people to take part in Green Doors in May, so if anyone of you out there run green businesses and want to get in on the green splurge, contact me, or better still, Jane Edwards at Somerset County Gazette.  You can get space for less than £100 – or more if you want!

  1. Hi Chrissie, could you guys stretch to hiring the thermal imaging camera to me up here in Churchinford, initially to work out what I need to invest in first to insulate and heat our home, but then as you have, to inform others? Hope you are well and fine, Selena.
